Brief Biography of the Speaker: Bill Leslie teaches the history of science and technology at the Johns Hopkins University. His current research includes a study of the laboratory and hospital design of such modernist architects as Louis Kahn, Eero Saarinen, Marcel Breuer, and Bertrand Goldberg, part of a project on The Architects of Modern Science. He is also writing the history of Johns Hopkins University. This talk draws on his research on industrial regimes, urban form and architectural design in Detroit and Los Angeles.
